Announcements in 2016

The court is pleased to announce that Peter R. Marksteiner took the oath of office as the Clerk of Court on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at 10 a.m. In the Federal Circuit, the Clerk of Court also serves as the Circuit Executive.

Mr. Marksteiner holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology, cum laude, from Florida State University, where he was also a Distinguished Graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Program, a Juris Doctor with Honors from Florida State University, a Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and a Master of Laws with Distinction from the Georgetown University Law Center. Mr. Marksteiner recently retired from the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps as a colonel. He is the recipient of numerous military awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit and the ABA Standing Committee on Armed Forces Law Career Military Service Award for the Air Force. The court’s former Circuit Executive and Clerk of Court, Dan O’Toole, has retired for health reasons.

The Customer Service desk of the Clerk’s Office will be closed for one hour from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Any documents delivered for filing during this hour may be placed in the Night Box inside the H Street garage entrance. This Customer Service closure does not affect electronic filing.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has amended the Federal Circuit Rules of Practice. The new rules are available here including a summary of changes. The amendments are extensive and include incorporating the terms of the Administrative Order Regarding Electronic Case Filing dated May 17, 2012; revising the requirements for confidential markings; as well as other updates, conforming changes and editorial corrections throughout. The revised rules are effective and shall apply to all appeals docketed on or after Friday, April 1, 2016. The notice version of the Rules of Practice 2016 will soon be replaced by a new web-structure version with enhanced electronic functionality.

The Federal Circuit Clerk's Office will open on time on Wednesday, March 16, 2016.

As a result of the Metro shutdown, and consistent with OPM policy, court staff will report to work on time with an option for unscheduled telework and leave as approved by senior staff. Chambers staff should resolve transportation issues in accordance with their respective judge's policy.
