The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit will be closed on Wednesday, February 10, 2010
due to the continuing snow emergency in Washington, DC. For purposes of computation of time and motions to enlarge time
under Fed. R. App. P. 26 and Fed. Cir. R. 26, February 10, 2010 will be considered a legal holiday. Filings for the Federal Circuit
may be placed in the night box located on the H Street side of the courthouse. The night box is closed every night
at midnight.

Chief Circuit Mediator To Participate in Webinar on Mediation in Patent Litigation on February 4, 2010
James Amend, Chief Circuit Mediator, will participate in webinar titled "USING MEDIATION
TO RESOLVE PATENT LITIGATION" on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 2:00pm, EST. The webinar is

Chief Judge Paul R. Michel’s will give the keynote address, titled “A View from the Court
of Appeals for the Federal Circuit regarding Appeals from the ITC in Section 337 Investigations”
at the American Conference Institute’s 2nd Expert Forum on ITC Litigation & Enforcement on
Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Omni Berkshire Place in New York City. Circuit Judge
Randall Rader will give the keynote address during the Master Classes session on Friday,
February 26th. Judge Rader will discuss the standards of proof and review for Section 337
determinations and comment on IP rights and enforcement in China, India, Brazil, Russia,

Chief Judge Michel Will Retire on May 31, 2010
On Friday, November 20, 2009, Chief Judge Paul R. Michel submitted a letter to President Obama advising
that he will step down as Chief Judge and retire from the judiciary effective May 31, 2010. The Chief Judge announced his plans at the Federal
Circuit Bar Association Dinner held at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC that evening. The transcript of his remarks is available here.
Judges of the Federal Circuit Sitting by Designation for 2007, 2008 and 2009
The Chief Justice assigns circuit judges to sit by designation with another circuit or district court pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 291. Thus far in 2009, eight judges of the Federal
Circuit have sat by designation with other circuits. In the calendar year 2008, four Federal Circuit judges sat by designation with four sister circuits, while one Federal Circuit
Judge presided over a trial in a federal district court. Five judges of the Federal Circuit had the opportunity to sit by designation with three sister circuits during calendar
year 2007. Lists of the Federal Circuit judges who were assigned to sit by designation are available for 2007,
2008 and 2009.
Visiting Judges Sitting with the Federal Circuit
Since September 2006, forty-two judges from circuit and district courts around the country have sat with the Federal Circuit.
