Circuit Judge Haldane Robert Mayer retired to senior status on June 30, 2010. He will continue to render substantial judicial service. Judge Mayer has been a member of the court for 23 years, having been appointed by President Ronald Reagan in 1987. Judge Mayer served as Chief Judge from 1997 to 2004.

Circuit Judge Arthur Gajarsa will give the luncheon Keynote Address at the 6th Annual Patents and the Financial Services Industry Conference on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 in New York City. Judge Gajarsa will discuss insights into Federal Circuit interactions with the Supreme Court, Congress and the U.S. Patent Office. Registration information is available at this link.

Chief Judge Paul R. Michel will speak on "Patentable Subject Matter Post-Bilski" at the George Mason University School of Law Eighth Annual Symposium on Hot Topics in Patent Law. The one day conference will be held at the FDIC Virginia Square Seidman Center next to the GMU Law School in Arlington, VA. Registration information is available at this link.

Chief Judge Michel delivered the annual State of the Court Speech on Friday, June 19 at the 11th Annual Federal Circuit Bar Association Bench & Bar Conference. The speech addressed not only the current State of the Court, but also emerging needs of the Court and challenges to its future, including legislative proposals of concern, threats to expeditious dispositions, en banc rehearings, and potential vacancies. Interested members of the Bar are encouraged to read the chief judge’s speech .
